Sketching Edge of Tomorrow art

I enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow. I think the movie handled the resetting days really well enough that after a bit you could tell they had been through certain new events you were witnessing the new loop for the first time. X-Men Days of Future Past was good, but overall, having just watched a Wolverine movie recently, I was expecting more than just a lot of Wolverine again, so I rank it pretty low. Here is a list of how I rank certain movies this year:

  1. Captain America Winter Soldier
  2. Edge of Tomorrow
  3. X-Men Days of Future Past

Godzilla? Still have to watch so I'll let you know.

So now I have crammed some mixed Edge of Tomorrow stuff below. Mostly rough exploratory images.

Star Wars Imperial Guard, painting

Adding another to my list of quick Star Wars portraits. This one is the Imperial Guard. Let's listen in on how his day went.

Dear Diary: Stood in front of elevator for 192 hours. Peed my pants four times. Two guests arrived for the Emperor. Shift ended early... FRIDAY!!! :-)

Well that was interesting. Seems he was one of the last guards to see the Emperor.

Big fish in a little pond, or big pond in a little fish?

So, I overheard this next to me in the coffee shop this morning which is overrun by people wearing conference badges for Apple's WDC....(said in a serious interview tone,) 'Are you a big fish in a small pond person, or are you a small pond in a big fish person?'
:-) :-) :-)

Use patterned layers to change your brush strokes

When you use a patterned layer as an "Add" layer, your dark brush strokes will receive the pattern of the layer. The strength or visibility of the pattern is controlled by the darkness of the brush along with the opacity of the pattern layer. There are many variations to setting up the effect with different desire outcomes.

I looked into her eyes and what happened next

A haunting digital portrait piece as another fellow artist described this one. I painted it over a couple episodes of Luther. No doubt there was some influence from Ruth Wilson's character Alice Morgan while I painted and watched the show.

Moths and painted wings

Moth

My latest from today, which is actually a piece that has been floating around in my head for months.  I've been meaning to make this painting since I added Audioslave's "Moth" to my playlist a while back.  It didn't end up exactly as I planned when it finally came out on the canvas today, but this may just be the first pass.  I've had a couple other variations I want to try out.

The weekend look of surprise

Finishing up a quick paint sketch request from a friend who asked me to paint a look of surprise... here it is!  Hope you have a great weekend.

Hexacube

Another in the series.  A sketchgroup member suggested that I blog about this series (from earlier when they were heavily geometric.)  I am working on a draft that puts down some thoughts on the whole thing.  It's not a very technical write up, but will explain more the idea and drive behind the whole thing.  Lately my style has been shifting and recombining since a month ago- so I think it would be good to follow the suggestion to put some thoughts down about what I have been doing from earlier in the series.

collected sketches

quick stuff I did over the last few days.  looks like i need more accuracy on my quick captures especially paints.  I rust fast if i don't do these often, and it's been a few weeks.

You are my lucky star

Finished the Ellen Ripley portrait over the weekend. It will be up in the digital paintings section in a few days. I have already planned a few more in the series. 'No fate but what we make,' 'No power in the 'verse can stop me,' and 'Nothin' but the rain.'

Next painting

Right now I'm working on a painting a portrait bit of Ellen Ripley. The paintings I have planned will likely become a small portrait series of women in science fiction. For now though, Ellen Ripley.

Girl with Cow Skull

I made a painting with a cow skull in it.  Was working on this a week ago and picked it back up today to finish it.  Final version is added to the digital paint gallery.
