Helle Harding Knife
I recently finished a knife for my brother. I made it for his birthday. It is a Helle blade; the model is Harding, a Scandinavian blade with a flat grind. The handle is made from white oak from a wagon wheel spoke made in the early 1900s. Apparently the spokes were sitting in a barn for almost 100 years unused, and well dried as there are no cracks. I bought the Helle blade and wood from ragweedforge.com. I also used nickel plate and red vulcanized fiber for spacing.
I documented pretty much the entire process as best as I could with photos. The only parts missing was a majority of the sanding and shaping because it was too much of a pain to stop and take off masks and eyewear just to snap a photo. The same goes for taking pics while stitching the leather sheath. I just wanted to get through that without stopping and skipped taking pics. Overall, the knife ended up being about 9 1/2 inches long.
I am currently making a leather belt loop for this knife's sheath, with a snap to replace the simple leather thong I had attached to the sheath, as well as a small leather holster for a 3 inch firesteel.
Photos are below.
