Use patterned layers to change your brush strokes

When you use a patterned layer as an "Add" layer, your dark brush strokes will receive the pattern of the layer. The strength or visibility of the pattern is controlled by the darkness of the brush along with the opacity of the pattern layer. There are many variations to setting up the effect with different desire outcomes.

I looked into her eyes and what happened next

A haunting digital portrait piece as another fellow artist described this one. I painted it over a couple episodes of Luther. No doubt there was some influence from Ruth Wilson's character Alice Morgan while I painted and watched the show.

HUD layer effect with Avengers Iron Man Tony Stark

Finished the next one in the series, Avengers Iron Man, Tony Stark. Thinking of how I wanted to portray Iron Man, I decided a shot in the helmet would be fun to do, and at the same time also show Tony Stark. It also was a good opportunity to play with layers to make the HUD effect that we always see when he's in the Iron Man suit.

The Love Monster

While partaking in my morning intravenous coffee, I flipped through an online tutorial on making a Love Monster. Hence, that is what you see below. Quick and oh so love monster-ish.

Coffee art prints for sale

I just made two coffee art prints available.  I have another coffee print that I am working on this week.  View the coffee art prints.

I plan on having really nice canvas prints made and for sale direct from this website.  They will be nicer quality and finish, than the canvas prints available now on Society6, and possibly not as pricey as Society6.  The only difference will be that since I will be shipping them myself, shipments will probably be made during weekends, also inventory of all sizes may not be readily available and may be made to order.

Moths and painted wings

Moth

My latest from today, which is actually a piece that has been floating around in my head for months.  I've been meaning to make this painting since I added Audioslave's "Moth" to my playlist a while back.  It didn't end up exactly as I planned when it finally came out on the canvas today, but this may just be the first pass.  I've had a couple other variations I want to try out.

The weekend look of surprise

Finishing up a quick paint sketch request from a friend who asked me to paint a look of surprise... here it is!  Hope you have a great weekend.

Instantly Destroy the Destroyer

Artist Block. The Destroyer.  We've all encountered this nemesis.  The colossal barrier that crushes your creative will.  Well, here's a source that I use once in a while, or whenever I have the opportunity.  As mentioned below, Alchemy focuses on the initial stage of the creation process, so well in fact, that the Destroyer has no way to get a foothold.

Alchemy (al.chemy.org)

Alchemy is an open drawing project aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy isn't software for creating finished artwork, but rather a sketching environment that focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creation process. Experimental in nature, Alchemy lets you brainstorm visually to explore an expanded range of ideas and possibilities in a serendipitous way.

Sketchgroup hangout

A few things from the sketchgroup hangout today.  On Google Hangout, sketching with some folks while watching some shows at home.

I plan to do a hangout regularly on Google.  Welcome to join and sketch.  Check for me on Saturday and Sunday afternoons until the evening or night.  I will try and make one or both of those days.

Hexacube

Another in the series.  A sketchgroup member suggested that I blog about this series (from earlier when they were heavily geometric.)  I am working on a draft that puts down some thoughts on the whole thing.  It's not a very technical write up, but will explain more the idea and drive behind the whole thing.  Lately my style has been shifting and recombining since a month ago- so I think it would be good to follow the suggestion to put some thoughts down about what I have been doing from earlier in the series.

collected sketches

quick stuff I did over the last few days.  looks like i need more accuracy on my quick captures especially paints.  I rust fast if i don't do these often, and it's been a few weeks.

Vela

adding to the series, with some Harmony mixed in with other apps.

Melaina

this series is morphing into something other than how it originally started.
